It combines the artistic past and present of Asbury Park, N.J., the rebirth of the city, historic venues, a Jersey Shore beach setting and a wonderful cause.
The Asbury Park Music + Film Festival completed its 4th year, showcasing music, movies and, most importantly, raising funds to benefit the youth of Asbury Park through music education, specifically the Hope Academy, the Hip-Hop Institute, the Asbury Park Summer Recreation Music Camp and the Beat Bus, a new mobile recording studio.
Synergy took on an elevated role with the APMFF, with our team serving as the primary executive and operations team for all aspects of the event. This included a multitude of diverse responsibilities, such as the development of all content programming, talent procurement and management, interfacing with multiple venues, sponsor relations, ticketing and credentials, volunteers, planning and executing a multi-channel marketing program, managing public relations, social media, creative design and film submission partners, and developing and operating a Festival Village featuring live music, film screenings, sponsorship activations and more.
The APMFF’s programming highlights included An Evening with Danny DeVito, a celebration of the Asbury Park native and award-winning actor / producer / director’s career, featuring clips, stories, a Q&A session and also a special appearance by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy. Throughout the weekend, there were performances that included Sublime with Rome, Gov’t Mule, Wyclef Jean, Michael Franti (who also had the world premiere of his film Stay Human) and North Mississippi Allstars.
The Festival also featured the world premiere of Break on Thru: A Celebration of Ray Manzarek and the Doors, which included a special appearance by Doors drummer John Densmore, and screenings of Academy Award winner A Fantastic Woman and the GRAMMY-nominated film Long Strange Trip, among many other films, Q&A’s and panels.
